Even a relationship with Jesus, though perfect Jesus be
Can never be quite perfect because of human flaws, you see.
Yes, we haven't reached perfection; at least we haven't yet,
So a less than perfect relationship is all we'll ever get.
Even thought love exists, along with strong desire
A perfect relationship, we really can't acquire.
You say you love me and I believe you do.
With God as my witness I have deep love for you.
Sometimes feelings get crushed and shattered to the core,
But hurt feelings left to fester can make a mighty sore.
Hurts can build a wall wherever we may go;
But then Christ's forgiving love we'd never ever know.
Because of what has happened lessons should be learned
And all bad attitudes they really should be burned,
Because they've done a lot of damage and brought a lot of grief
Which took away a friendship like a dirty thief!
Many mistakes were made and feelings were turned upside down.
There were misjudgments; tempers came unwound.
Sure there's ups and downs and hurts along the way,
But these help us spiritually and teaches us to pray.
Everyone has made mistakes, for everyone has sinned,
But Jesus won't abandon us. He'll always be a friend.
Wouldn't it be very sad to be the devils slave
By never seeing our flaws and carry them to the grave?
What has happened between us really is a shame!
Now, it's time I swallow pride. Time to accept some blame:
I offer my apology. Will you accept? Are you game?
I'd like to start anew, and hope you feel the same.
With my heart just filled with love, I beg with all my might:
Will you please help me develop a relationship that is right?
I believe there's a friendship just waiting for you and me,
If only it were cultivated... Oh, how sweet it could be!
By following simple rules which the Bible teaches
No reason our relationship can't be cream and peaches.
Remembering, Jesus is the Master. The Shepherd of one and all:
He'll give us assistance, if on Him we will call.
We happen to be related, and God, He has His reason:
If only we seek His Will our heart will surely season.
So, won't you come along with me, taking Jesus by the hand
And cultivate a relationship which ought to be just grand?
I pray God destroys attitudes so bygones can be past
And helps us build a friendship... A friendship that will last!
If you don't want me around, then away is where I'll stay.
Please know I'll always love you regardless of what you say.
But I'm hoping for that relationship before it's time to die:
My door is always open, if ever
you care to try.
